Post and Beam Home Kits

The Round Post and Beam home style is so unique. We provide this style home in the true handcrafted log style. To qualify as truly handcrafted the logs are all hand scribed to fit into the superstructure of the home. Traditional dovetails, mortise and tenon, and other joinery is used to create a structure which could have existed hundreds of years ago. A post and beam shell includes a few elements, so let’s take a look at one sample.

For Post and Beam homes we can include either just the logs for the ‘skeleton’ shell or we can provide all of the logs plus the materials necessary to dry in the home. The first question I can see that statement raising is, “What is a dryin package”?

A dryin package is one that includes not only the log elements but also materials such as:

  • exterior doors,
  • windows,
  • roofing,
  • soffit,
  • fascia,
  • exterior door and window trim,
  • framing lumber for between the Post and Beam work– or SIP panels to wrap the home in,
  • interior framing lumber,
  • exterior wood siding,
  • first floor subfloor,
  • upper subfloor,
  • 1×6 pine or cedar tongue and groove for the ceilings, and
  • construction drawings.

Materials specifically not included are:

  • basement materials
  • exterior stucco material
  • cultured stone
  • exterior door and window trim
  • interior finish materials
  • garage doors
  • insulation

Things which can be added to the standard package include:

  • log railing for porches
  • garage and breezeway material
  • extending log posts to walk out basement level
  • log post and beam carport
  • metal siding for exterior

If the job site is a long way from us, many customers choose to purchase just the log shell. This decision is totally up to you. Another post and beam home we shipped to Colorado we provided the post and beam shell, SIP panels, and then coordinated with a local lumber yard there to provide the other dryin materials. Our crew also went and spent about four months on site erecting the home and drying it in. If you desire for us to come and do the dryin for your post and beam home, that can be done. It is best to have a local builder that you are working with plan to do everything except the package erection and dryin. In this case we work was a subcontractor for that slice of the project. Then your local builder continues with the project.

Cowboy Log Homes

Any projected costs, cost estimates, material costs, and estimated construction/ building costs, are only the opinion of Cowboy Log Homes and are drawn from our experience. Every home is custom tailored to meet our individual client's wants and desires. The construction of a log or timber home is based on two primary costs: material provided by the log home company and construction costs contracted with Cowboy Log Homes as the builder or another builder of the customer's choice. Final costs are obtained and contracted with each respectively. Cowboy Log Homes is simply the "glue" that helps bring these two together to provide a final culmination of a customer's project. * Please note photos and elevations may differ some from accompanying floor plans.
