Log Home Company- Working For You!

Sue | February 21st, 2012 - 2:27 pm

As you may have noticed on our home page, Cowboy Log Homes is a full service log home company. So what does that mean for you, the homeowner? It means our homeowners get a lot of personalized service with our homes from the start to the finish, if you so desire.

We are log home coordinators.

Not only do we supply pricing, but we work with you to design your home, choose the best log home package for your needs and budget, and also can serve as your builder or refer you to a qualified builder. We strive to be extremely diligent in researching builder’s skills and pricing. Also we are able to share with you our experience of many years in the log home building industry.

Some customers believe they can save vast amounts of money  by working directly with a wholesale log home company. Guess what… they don’t!

Often log home companies will give you a quote on exactly what you request. In contrast, we explore your ideas with you and make recommendations based on your needs and budget. Often manufacturers expect you to be educated about log home construction. They do not take hours each day to educate people on log home specifics. They simply do not have the time or the man power to do that.

Cowboy Log Homes invests time in customer, one on one. We are not an office filled with people who only worry about a paycheck. Instead Cowboy Log Homes is Mike and Sue Lemmon. From start to finish it is in our best interests to invest our time in you, the homeowner.

Let me contrast two log home projects for you. The first was a customer who hired an architect. Then he took the plans and tried to get lots of log home companies to bid on the project. The second owners were ones who came to us directly for the entire project.

Log Home Project #1

This first owner hired an architect that was not familiar with log home construction. (With log homes it is vital to project the spans that logs can travel. Even if a designer or architect claim they are well versed in logs, chances are they really are not.) When the drawings came to me the first glaring fact the drawings revealed was the designs were not done by someone with log experience. The drawings gave the basic ideas of how the couple envisioned their home, but structurally the drawings were worthless. (The owners had spent over $5,000 on these drawings). For this project we had to totally redo the construction drawings. Right there the homeowner lost $5,000.

The second glaring fact was every company provides a different level of completion to the logs and different package inclusions. One competing log company gave the owners a very cheap price on the logs. The owners forwarded it to me and asked if I would match the price. My reply was: “No, because we use premium grade logs that are precut”. The bid on the paper was for low cabin grade logs that were random length. Also the bid from the other company contained spikes to for the log wall assembly hardware. We use lag bolts or log screws which are expensive and much better.

In the end the owners chose the cheap log package over us.  Then about six months after the home was completed the owners called us up and asked us why their home didn’t look as dramatic and pristine as the ones on our website… UGH! And to top it off they said their final turnkey price ended up $30 per square foot more than we had originally estimated. The contractor had up charged them considerably because the random length logs had taken so much time and effort to cut.

Log Home Project #2

The second project was for a handcrafted log home. The owners knew they wanted a new log home but they readily admitted that they did not know much about log cabin construction. From the very first they looked for log cabin builders, like us, who could provide more personalized service. After interviewing a few log home companies and another log yard, they decided that we provided the friendliest service with the most expertise.

Every home begins with a floor plan. Instead of spending $5,000 on drawings (as the first owner did), this couple took advantage of browsing through the floor plans on our website. They found a floor plan that closely resembled their ideals. We made a few changes to the floor plans and then provided a preliminary quote estimate based on our quality log packages. The first plan was little out of their total budget so we  reduced the size of the home and re-quoted it.  After arriving at the package price we spoke with three log home builders and selected the one which had time for the project, a reasonable price, and a good bit of experience with log homes. We also gave a scheduling discount on the log and material enabling the homeowners to upgrade to a Douglas Fir handcrafted log home.

In the end our customers got the home of their dreams that oozed of quality. We visited the job site several times and were on site when the logs arrived. We were available for the builder and the homeowners to ask questions through the project. In the end the final turnkey price was just slightly under what our original projected price per square foot.

Our Story~

Before we became a log home company we were log home builders. Building with several different log home yard’s materials we found some log home companies had better logs than others. Others had very poor customer service.

With this background we formed our own log home yard. With our experience there is no need for our customers to have to sort through all of the pros and cons of other company. We, as builders, have sorted through all of them for you.

We are, and will always be log home coordinators.

Other Log Home Dealers~

There are log home dealers I have met who literally knew almost nothing about log home construction. Often log home companies offer a customer a dealership when they buy a home or right after they purchase a new log home. The dealer pays a fee, gets some displays and brochures, and now they are a dealers. To us, our customers deserve more. Just owning a log home does not make you an authority.

And so we strongly believe that our log and timber homes and cabins coupled with our service save you a lot of money and heartache. Qualified log home companies are ones who partner with you for your log home journey. So take advantage of our knowledge and let us, Cowboy Log Homes, work for you!

Cowboy Log Homes

Any projected costs, cost estimates, material costs, and estimated construction/ building costs, are only the opinion of Cowboy Log Homes and are drawn from our experience. Every home is custom tailored to meet our individual client's wants and desires. The construction of a log or timber home is based on two primary costs: material provided by the log home company and construction costs contracted with Cowboy Log Homes as the builder or another builder of the customer's choice. Final costs are obtained and contracted with each respectively. Cowboy Log Homes is simply the "glue" that helps bring these two together to provide a final culmination of a customer's project. * Please note photos and elevations may differ some from accompanying floor plans.
