Colorado Log Homes

Colorado is another lovely Rocky Mountain state. While Montana is home to about 1 million people, over 5 million call Colorado home. With more industry and more government based jobs this state has been a bright spot in the current economy. Both Colorado and Montana are also havens for out-of-staters. In some areas more parcels of property are owned by non-Colorado residents then those living in the state full time. The allure of the rugged mountains, out of the way places, skiing, and national parks are all draws to those who have to live in place like New York City and Chicago.

I think one of my earliest introductions to the western flavor of life was John Denver’s songs, “Rocky Mountain High” and “Sunshine On My Shoulder”. Though the landscape is gorgeous, there are also some who move to the west to get away from the humid and cloudy conditions of the east coast. One lady described it as, “The air here is ten pounds lighter”. For those who suffer from depression, living in an area where the sun shines almost every day can be a great comfort.

Log homes are synonymous with areas like Colorado. The use of large diameter logs makes the homes fit right into the back drops. Larger luxury log homes look very nice with logs up to twenty-five or thirty inches across. Character posts are another feature which are built into the homes. Western Red Cedar trunks are harvested with some of the stumpage then the fluted root base is built into the home. Many times a covered entry way will be supported  by these rustic beauties. Flared posts can also be used on the corners, within the body of a truss, or as a support post. The biggest flares are gained with the use of red cedar.

Square cut logs homes with wide channels of chinking are more commonly seen on the east coast. Colonial towns such as Williamsburg Virginia, Hannastown Pennsylvania, and Plymouth hold to the Appalachian style of flat sawn logs and chinking. The round Swedish Cope and Scandinavian full scribing is much more the flavor of Colorado log cabins.

Log lodges, dude ranches, and ski resort towns also abound in Colorado. For the ritzy, places like Aspen are the main attraction. Many movies stars, celebrities, and millionaires have second homes in places like Aspen. Aspen county does have a lot of permitting to get a new home built, but that helps to insure that quality log homes are constructed.

So when you are ready to build your Colorado log home, give us a call. We love to work with people from the very first day of their planning.

Cowboy Log Homes

Any projected costs, cost estimates, material costs, and estimated construction/ building costs, are only the opinion of Cowboy Log Homes and are drawn from our experience. Every home is custom tailored to meet our individual client's wants and desires. The construction of a log or timber home is based on two primary costs: material provided by the log home company and construction costs contracted with Cowboy Log Homes as the builder or another builder of the customer's choice. Final costs are obtained and contracted with each respectively. Cowboy Log Homes is simply the "glue" that helps bring these two together to provide a final culmination of a customer's project. * Please note photos and elevations may differ some from accompanying floor plans.
