Log home designs are a vital step in the construction of a new log home. We have found the happiest homeowners to be those that invest the time and funds into log home designs which are customized to their needs.
Our log home designs include both Preliminary Drawings and Final Construction Drawings. Often through looking at photos and sample floor plans the homeowner is able to gain a general idea of what style home and broad design features they envision. Then we take these ideas and assimilate them into a custom floor plan.
Within the preliminary drawings stage we design a floor plan and a set of four elevations based on the owner’s ideas. Then we usually do about three rounds of changes to the designs, working back and forth with the homeowner, until the final home desired has been reached.
The construction drawings are based on the preliminary designs. Once the prelims are finished the owners sign off on it and we begin the construction drawings. These include all of the background ‘nuts and bolts’ detail that is needed to construct the home. Usually the only part of the construction drawings that the owners are involved with is the lighting schedule.
If you are trying to price out what your log home will cost to build it can be very difficult without a set of construction drawings to work from. Most contractors will not provide more than a price per square foot without actual drawings to base their costs on. Having a set of construction drawings customized to your home shows the builder a level of commitment that you are a serious homeowner and you are moving forward with your plans.
Construction drawings include schedules such as roof framing, subfloor framing, electrical schedule, window and door schedules, foundation details, log schedule, cross sections of the house, etc.
So if you are serious about building your log home, then take the small step to commit the time and resources to purchase the drawings for your future log home.
