Log Cabin Kits

Log cabin kits are based on the idea of getting all of your log and materials from one place. Some cabin kits only offer the logs. Some kits come with everything including the kitchen sink. So how do you decide what it the best route for you?

We can provide either just a log shell or a full dry-in package. The basest of base log home kits is a log only package. Our log shells typically come precut with the door and window openings and the corners premade. The handcrafted log shells come fully precut and prenumbered. Logs are something that you can’t just go out and purchase at the local lumber yard, so there is a need to get them from a log home supplier. Log shell only kits are again, all over the board in pricing. Our 8 inch milled log shells range between about $24 to $28 per square foot depending on the design. We use premium grade logs that are either kiln dried or dead standing.  With the handcrafted log shells the logs increase size and precutting, making them more valuable. Also they decrease your time on the job site.

The benefit of a full dry-in package is that you know everything to dry the cabin in will arrive with the shipment of logs. You have the choice of selecting exactly what windows you want– including brand, style, and color. The same applies to exterior doors. For log homes we find the solid wood doors a nice match. That is why added our line of custom wood doors. Be sure to look at our Log Home Doors page for a selection.

To us, a complete log home package that comes with a kitchen sinks, toilets, faucets, finished flooring, interior doors, bathroom fixtures, etc is too much. We feel that our homeowners need more flexibility to choose their finish materials in person. In our dryin packages we strive to provide everything to protect the home against weather, while these other packages are ‘stuffed’ with too much ‘stuff’. If you have a leaky faucet then you should be able to go directly to the store where you purchased it.

So don’t be carried away with the idea of total complete packages. The happy medium to us that maximizes your budget while insuring that you get the best materials for your home is our dry-in packages. Also why pay shipping costs for ‘stuff’ that should be selected by you in person?

Cowboy Log Homes

Any projected costs, cost estimates, material costs, and estimated construction/ building costs, are only the opinion of Cowboy Log Homes and are drawn from our experience. Every home is custom tailored to meet our individual client's wants and desires. The construction of a log or timber home is based on two primary costs: material provided by the log home company and construction costs contracted with Cowboy Log Homes as the builder or another builder of the customer's choice. Final costs are obtained and contracted with each respectively. Cowboy Log Homes is simply the "glue" that helps bring these two together to provide a final culmination of a customer's project. * Please note photos and elevations may differ some from accompanying floor plans.
