Timber Frame Homes are the fourth style of construction that we offer. Timber framing is a style of home construction with strong roots in the past. The square timbers offer a nice mix of wood and standard building materials. For a slightly less rustic feel than a log home, this is a very popular choice. Timber frame construction is used for entire homes as well as additions.
All of our timbers are entirely hand crafted. There are no machine cuts. Each timber is squared, hand sanded, and slotted as per the design of the home. Some timber frame companies only offer homes in glu-lam beams. That is not the case with our homes.
Joinery is performed in Mortise and Tenon and Dovetail. Metal plating is not required for our superstructures. This particular joint is shown here in the double dovetail. No gaps or inaccurate cuts can even be seen. This is true craftsmanship.
Log species for square timber frame homes include Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir. Western Red Cedar is the reddish brown in color. The Douglas Fir has a blonder appearance. Square timbers tend to range from 10×10 to 12×12 in size. Knee braces can be added. Shown here are some arched ones and also square ones can be fashioned.
King trusses are very commonly used to add strength and aesthetics to the timber frame house plans. Pictured here is square timber stairs. Extreme detail and precision goes into each piece.
The entire timber frame structure is assembled in the yard. This it is dissembled and shipped. All timbers are handled with slings to prevent marking or scarring. All timbers are sprayed with fungicide before shipping.
Other package inclusions for timber frame homes include: exterior doors, windows, roofing materials, shingles or metal roofing (customer choice), decks, porches, staircases, interior framing, and 1×6 pine tongue and groove for ceilings and soffits. Other optional inclusions: garages, sky lighting, cedar shakes, spiral staircases, log gazebos or turrets.
Timber frame lumber and material packages are ready to be shipped within about 10 weeks after approval of final construction drawings and receipt of initial deposit. (Based on average sized home).
