As you may have noticed, on our home page we the United States and Canada as the main areas for servicing log home clients. With the popularity of log homes we have actually be contacted by customers as far away as the United Kingdom, Japan, China, Holland, India, and the Czech Republic. Our homes transcend borders and appeal to many races and classes of people.
Alberta, Canada borders Montana to the north. This shared border was the beginning of us working with Canadian customers. Our clients have found that our service is top notch, regardless of where our office is located. Through emailed PDF files, our website CowboyLogHomes.com , and a live plan book, it is much quicker and easier to convey vital information. There is almost no limit to the amount of full colored, detailed photos we can supply.
The Sheridan log home plan was built in the foothills of Alberta. The setting sun and rugged terrain make this low profile cabin blend right into the scenery. This is a duplex model and was constructed for a bed and breakfast.
The highest concentration of our log homes is found surrounding Malakwa, British Columbia. Plan names such as the Sicamous, Revelstoke, and North Shushwap are drawn from the local areas. One of our recent log home projects was this 8,000 square foot handcrafted log home. It was built for the Buss family. This is the Syphon Creek plan and was a dream come true. One interesting note, the handcrafted log railing from this home was made from logs harvested from their property.
The Hunter plan, probably our most sought after Post and Beam home plan, was built on a lake near Sicamous. The wide covered porches are ideal for sitting outside near the water. The balcony on the front that opens from the loft is a neat touch. Also the staircase on the inside of the home is a full log case with a flared bottom.
One hallmark of Canadian log homes is the handcrafted log work. Lake Country Log Homes and a few other premier handcrafted companies are located near 100 Mile, Canada. For handcrafted log home plans two of the top log species are Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir. These are both harder to obtain in the Western United States and impossible to harvest east of the Mississippi, thus British Columbia has always been a
hot spot for handcrafted log home construction.
Western Red Cedar is the only species which can be used in some locations. Europe and Mexico are two such places. The natural cedar oils keep rot, mildew, and insects at bay. In a country like Holland there are laws which dictate how thick a wall must be and how much R value it must possess. With these parameters a handcrafted log is thick enough. The natural cedar oils keep the insects at bay, so this is the only species which can be shipped internationally without being first treated in a high temperature kiln. In order to craft a log it must have a higher moisture content than a milled log needs, so the Western Red Cedar is the only kind that meets both criteria.
The fist time I saw some of Lake Country’s photos I was captivated by the homes and also the scenery. In one photo an early morning mist is rising from the mountains. In other snow is sugar coating a log shell. It is as though these magical houses are made in the lade of the fairies. Surely they are what dreams are made of…
